Hanwha Vision’s relentless commitment to innovation is well-known throughout the video surveillance industry. The recent introduction of Wisenet 9, which powers our 2nd generation P and X series cameras, exemplifies how Hanwha Vision’s internal R&D capabilities drive groundbreaking advancements that benefit system integrators and end-users across every industry.
We recently spoke with Ramy Ayad, Vice President of Product Management & Innovation, and Gerald BeomSeok Kim, Senior Product Manager. Leading the strategic direction and development for cameras powered by Wisenet 9, Ramy and Gerald provided an inside perspective on this significant advancement.
This project had a clear strategic goal: to build a security solution that exceeds today’s market requirements and strengthens Hanwha Vision’s unique position for the future.
“Our primary aim was to go beyond current technological limits and introduce a new generation of truly intelligent, AI-enhanced cameras with superior AI processing power, exceptional video quality, especially in challenging lighting, and strong cybersecurity protection,” said Gerald.
Adding to these high-value aspects, Ramy highlighted the inclusion of FIPS 140-3 Level 3 compliance and an integrated power and resource management tool as further significant advantages of our Wisenet 9 powered cameras.
According to Ramy, a major driving force was Hanwha Vision‘s strategic decision to design and optimize our own SoC as the core technology powering our new camera lineup, ensuring peak performance and efficiency.
“This in-house control over our core technology allows us to better meet the specific needs of our customers and the nuances of the security market. It enables us to integrate specialized features and achieve high performance while keeping our pricing competitive,” said Ramy.
With its unprecedented AI capabilities for security cameras, Wisenet 9 will be the core technology for our flagship P and X series, and specialized T series cameras.
Ramy stated, “Building upon this foundation, our long-term strategic vision extends beyond Hanwha Vision, aiming to make a significant positive impact across the broader market and greatly enhance user value industry-wide. Wisenet 9 and cameras powered by Wisenet 9 will become a new industry standard, driven by its comprehensive AI features and advanced image processing capabilities.”
Furthermore, Hanwha Vision’s product development team will concentrate on creating more refined ways to filter metadata, leveraging AI to allow users to selectively transmit the most relevant information for greater efficiency.
The real value of the Wisenet 9 powered cameras goes far beyond basic security functions. Ramy emphasizes the smooth integration of advanced AI capabilities, including sophisticated analytics and unique image optimization algorithms specifically designed for security. A key technical advantage enabling this, according to Ramy, is the Wisenet 9 chipset’s unique design, featuring two independent Neural Processing Units (NPUs).
This allows the camera to enhance both AI performance and AI-driven image optimization at the same time, without them interfering with each other. This advanced technology directly results in a better experience for our users.
“The comprehensive set of analytics and AI image enhancements built into the Wisenet 9 offers a clearly superior value compared to what’s currently available,” Ramy stated.
Gerald emphasized that another core strength is how easily it can be adapted for various uses. Unlike many security systems where users must choose between top-tier performance and cost-effectiveness, cameras powered by Wisenet 9 strike an impressive balance, making them ideal security solutions for a wide range of deployment scenarios. Adding to this, Gerald stated, “Wisenet 9 powered cameras deliver optimal performance right out of the box with minimal setup required, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for every user.”
Bringing such an innovative product to life naturally comes with its share of challenges. The need to balance advanced features with critical engineering aspects like cost efficiency, power consumption, and heat management is a complex but vital task.
Despite these challenges, the strong teamwork within the development group was essential to its success.
Gerald cited the smooth and effective cooperation among experts throughout the entire product development process. “The consistent exchange of new ideas and insightful feedback continuously inspired us, fostering a more profound sense of engagement and a shared dedication to delivering a superior solution for our valued customers,” he noted.
For both Ramy and Gerald, moments of significant professional satisfaction are deeply connected to the successful launch and real-world use of the latest innovation they helped bring to market.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the tangible benefits that Wisenet 9-powered cameras provide to end-users, as demonstrated by the positive feedback we have received from initial performance reviews,” Ramy said.
“The ultimate success is seeing customers effectively utilize the products powered by Wisenet 9 and observing their positive impact in this increasingly competitive security market,” Gerald added.
