Davis School District Chooses Hanwha for Transition from Analog to IP
“I really look at our relationship with Hanwha as a partnership. It’s important to have an affordable source that can provide us with cameras, recording hardware and operational software”
– Justin Mott, Buildings Coordinator, Davis School District
Davis School District is the second largest in Utah and ranks 52nd in the U.S. Given its large student population spread across 299 square miles, the school district has placed a high value on maintaining the safety and security of its schools, each of which is equipped with a video surveillance system.
Until recently, those systems were analog across the district – but given the performance and quality of video those systems generate, Davis School District changed that.
The choice to go with Hanwha IP cameras district-wide was based primarily on the quality of the cameras. Hanwha’s recorders and Smart Security Manager (SSM) video management system solidified the decision. Along with other models, the system employs the SND -6084R, a fixed –dome with built-in-motion detection, as well as the SNP -6200RH, PTZ camera.
Hanwha Techwin offers more than one camera with infrared illumination to support day/night use in outdoor areas, but they have different capabilities. The SND-6084R is a fixed-dome type with a wide field-of-view. With built-in motion detection, it’s ideal for covering areas where nobody should be at night. In contrast, the SNP-6200RH is a PTZ-type camera, which might be better for an active parking lot, for example, where a security officer can use the PTZ function to have a closer look at something if necessary.
Following each installation, the Hanwha cameras have demonstrated their value several times over. As the number of Hanwha cameras continues to grow, the Davis School District will be integrating video surveillance with intrusion detection systems to further enhance the ability to identify the cause of and respond to burglar alarms. Upgrades will continue for the foreseeable future as funding becomes available and technology continues to advance.
“I really look at our relationship with Hanwha as a partnership. Having worked with many different vendors, it’s important to us that we have an affordable source that can provide us with cameras, recording hardware and operational software,” said Justin Mott, Buildings Coordinator for the Davis School District.
