Hanwha Vision, High-Performance Security for the Palais des Sports de Toulon, South France

At a glance

  • Challenge
The Palais des Sports de Toulon needed to replace its outdated 25-year-old security system to enhance safety, manage crowds, and meet international competition security standards.
  • Solution
The venue deployed over 60 Hanwha Vision X series AI cameras which were integrated with the Genetec platform for a complete, centralized, and high-performance surveillance system.
  • Result
The modernization delivered enhanced security, simplified operations, and provided a future-proof, scalable infrastructure that meets the eligibility requirements for hosting major sporting events.

The Palais des Sports de Toulon in South France is a key venue hosting major sporting, cultural, and community events every year. With a capacity for several thousand spectators, site security is paramount in order to keep visitors and staff safe.

To modernise its video protection system and ensure optimal surveillance, the Toulon Métropole, responsible for the venue, chose SNEF Connect, a certified integrator to support the installation of a new system, alongside Hanwha Vision solutions in collaboration with the Genetec video management system.

SNEF Connect was mandated for this project through the national purchasing centre, UGAP. The SNEF Connect Agency Manager in La Seyne-sur-Mer, Aïman Fawaz, shared that the first step to implementing a new system was a site audit to define the requirements: “Through UGAP, we succeeded in being mandated to carry out an audit to present them with a suitable technical solution.”

A Complete and High-Performance System

The major challenge of this modernisation was the complete removal of the old system, which was 25 years old, Mr. Fawaz explains.

The application of video surveillance in this project must cover multiple areas:

  • Security and crowd management
  • User safety: The building hosts clubs and associations (judo rooms, climbing walls, gymnasiums), and the system guarantees the safety of visitors
  • Incident investigation: A key benefit of the system is having recordings for post-incident analysis

To meet the site’s requirements, SNEF Connect deployed over 60 cameras from the Hanwha Vision X series.

These cameras, equipped with embedded artificial intelligence, automatically optimise images, with the AI notably reducing image noise and improving clarity.

Centralised and Intuitive

The entire system integrates seamlessly with the Genetec platform, which centralises and manages the video streams from all installed cameras. This integration between Hanwha Vision and Genetec ensures effective monitoring and greater situational awareness.

Enhanced Security and Simplified Management

The project also had to meet specific needs, particularly eligibility for major sporting competitions:

“Today, to be eligible to host major teams in international competitions, such as the Euro or regional cups, federations require a certain level of security prerequisites, and the Palais des Sports needed to upgrade,” said Mr. Fawaz.

Furthermore, the system is future-proof. The cameras are already equipped with metadata and AI, making them ready for future use cases:

“The client is indeed aware that they have a very high-performance solution with AI. It only requires setting up use cases, such as line crossing, unauthorised object abandonment, or people counting, for example. These are potentially tools that we will implement in the future.”

An Exemplary Collaboration

Thanks to this modernisation, the Palais des Sports de Toulon now benefits from an increased level of security while simplifying the work of on-site teams.

By combining the reliability of Hanwha Vision cameras, the performance of the Genetec platform, and SNEF Connect’s integration expertise, the Palais des Sports de Toulon now benefits from effective security through its modern, scalable and future-proof video surveillance system.
