FEPA S.p.A. is one of the most established and innovative Italian companies in the corrugated cardboard packaging sector. Founded over 60 years ago as a family-owned business by the Ferretti family, FEPA has transformed its tradition into a modern, efficient industrial model focused on quality.
Today, the Group operates two highly automated production plants in the province of Parma — San Polo di Torrile and Mezzani — equipped with the most advanced technologies for the production, printing, and converting of corrugated cardboard. With a strong commitment to sustainability, continuous innovation, and product customization, FEPA is a strategic partner for companies in the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, logistics, and industrial sectors.
The company’s constant focus on safety, personnel protection, and the optimization of internal processes led FEPA to launch a major project to upgrade its video surveillance system.
With continuously growing production flows, extensive storage areas, and automated departments, FEPA required:
The goal was to raise security standards and gain a more precise view of internal processes, improving quality, efficiency, and operational continuity.
The project was entrusted to Bieffedue Elettronica, a specialized system integrator, which selected Hanwha Vision Europe technologies as the core of the infrastructure.
Installed in the most sensitive areas — production departments, perimeters, and logistics zones — they provide:
Thanks to these features, FEPA now benefits from a level of detail and clarity that is essential for security and operational control.
As the heart of the entire system, WAVE ensures:
The result is a smooth, powerful, and responsive system that simplifies site supervision and reduces response times.
The project confirms FEPA’s approach: tangible innovation, targeted investments, and a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and safety.
What was the main need that led you to invest in a new video surveillance system?
In recent years, our company has embarked on a significant expansion phase for both plants. In one facility, we installed a new corrugator, which required the creation of a dedicated paper warehouse and a complete redesign and expansion of storage areas, as well as loading and unloading layouts, with a resulting increase in staff and operational flows. At the same time, the other plant also underwent substantial expansion, with an increase in the number of rooms and service areas.
This growth made it necessary to completely rethink the video surveillance system, ensuring constant coverage and full control of all operational areas. The intervention had to be carried out very quickly and without interfering with daily activities. There was also a need to guarantee high standards of quality and robustness, considering the large number of access points and continuous traffic, operating 7 days a week, including night hours.
How has the new system improved the day-to-day management of the facilities and production lines?
The new system has significantly improved daily plant management thanks to its ease of use and highly intuitive interface. The image quality and sharpness allow precise and accurate monitoring of all supervised areas, effectively supporting operational and supervisory activities.
Having a constant and reliable view of production and logistics areas ensures a high level of security, providing a strong sense of peace of mind and confidence in a system that is efficient, stable, and secure.
Bieffedue Elettronica takes industrial security to the next level: over 35 years of experience transformed into intelligent, integrated, and future-oriented solutions. We help companies strengthen security, efficiency, and decision-making capabilities through advanced technologies and high-performance integrations.
In the FEPA project, we implemented Hanwha Vision solutions to ensure complete visibility of the facilities, speed up response times, and improve operational continuity. A system that not only protects but also optimizes processes and supports the company’s growth.
What technical challenges did you face when integrating the system at FEPA’s facilities?
The complexity emerged on two distinct fronts: design and execution. During the design phase, the main challenge was adapting to an environment with extremely high operational efficiency and 24/7 shift work. We had to design an infrastructure capable of coexisting with heterogeneous electrical systems, robotic installations, and automated lines, while managing workplace safety with the utmost professionalism in an environment full of moving machinery.
During the execution phase, the challenge was logistical coordination. We operated alongside daily site activities and multiple complex construction projects moving through logistics yards. Synchronizing our interventions with these dynamics was essential to ensure project progress without ever disrupting operations.
What concrete advantages made the QNO-C8083R cameras and the WISENET WAVE platform the ideal solution for this project?
A key factor was the ability to ensure high system reliability and redundancy, which is crucial for FEPA’s operational continuity. With the Wisenet WAVE platform, achieving this was extremely straightforward: its architecture allowed us to configure a resilient and robust system without the complexity typical of other solutions.
In addition to this structural robustness, we delivered operational efficiency. Thanks to integrated AI technology and always-accessible metadata, event searches are immediate and precise. In short, we delivered a system that not only “sees” better thanks to high resolution, but is also more secure, easier to manage, and smarter in data retrieval.
