Manage your videos more effectively with Hanwha Vision’s Bitrate Control.

Bitrate Control

As surveillance cameras capture video at higher resolutions, the increased data storage requirements make effective video compression essential for reducing both storage and bandwidth usage. Hanwha Vision’s proprietary bitrate reduction technologies (WiseStream, Dynamic GOV, Dynamic FPS) are applied in combination to utilise advanced video compression algorithms. This reduces data volume and lowers bandwidth consumption while maintaining image quality.

Reducing bitrate in Non ROI regions with SkipBlock (with bitrate decrease)

WiseStream offers multiple intelligent compression levels that automatically optimise video quality and data usage. Each level applies controlled low-pass filtering and noise reduction to minimise compression-related quality loss. These settings maintain high image quality in regions of interest while applying stronger compression to background areas, significantly reducing bitrate and overall data volume. This reduction in data traffic lowers storage and bandwidth requirements, reduces operating costs, improves system efficiency, and optimises memory usage.

The impact is especially strong in low-activity scenes, where increased compression of non-ROI areas delivers the greatest data reduction without compromising important visual detail.

Dynamic GOV (Group of Video)

This technology analyses motion and complexity within scenes to dynamically adjust GOV (Group of Video) length during compression. In quiet scenes with minimal motion, it extends GOV by widening I-frames (complete frames), reducing overall data volume. In complex, high-motion scenes, it shortens GOV by inserting additional I-frames, using P-frames (change-only frames) to maintain image quality and real-time responsiveness.

This content-adaptive approach optimises bitrate: longer GOVs for static scenes minimise data, while shorter GOVs for dynamic scenes preserve clarity without excessive compression artefacts.

Dynamic FPS (Frames per Second)

This technology adjusts the video’s FPS in response to the surveillance environment or system load. It records video at a lower FPS during normal conditions to conserve storage space and automatically increases the FPS when motion or an event is detected
