New camera installations improve monitoring and security for Finnlines

Using Wisenet WAVE and Hanwha Vision cameras to support safe, reliable and efficient operations.

Finnlines is a leading provider of freight and passenger shipping services in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay. With an extensive network of over 170 weekly freight and 80 passenger departures, Finnlines provides reliable and efficient shipping services. As part of the Grimaldi Group, Finnlines combines local connections with a global network. 

Camera upgrades

To strengthen operational  reliability and security onboard, the camera systems on several Finnlines vessels were upgraded. Working closely with the installer, Elena Yhtiöt Oy, Finnlines selected  Hanwha Vision solutions for their proven performance and reliability. The project included the installation of new servers and Wisenet WAVE VMS on five Finnlines vessels, along with the replacement of older cameras.

Improving monitoring and security

Hanwha Vision’s solution enhances the monitoring of vessels, operations, equipment and cargo. Real-time alerts help crews respond quickly to situations requiring attention, such as unauthorized access to restricted areas. 

The cameras also support  vessel operations by providing visual assistance during berthing, cargo loading and cargo unloading. Hanwha PTZ cameras enable operators to obtain detailed views of operational areas and equipment when needed, contributing safe and efficient operations. 

Future expansion

With Wisenet WAVE and the newly installed cameras, Finnlines now benefits from a modern, reliable and user-friendly surveillance system. Installation work is continuing across the Finnlines fleet, and early results have demonstrated the value of  advanced video monitoring technology.

Based on these positive experiences, Finnlines is evaluating the deployment of similar solutions on additional vessels. Discussions are ongoing regarding the use of thermal imaging to further enhance situational awareness and support safe operations in demanding maritime conditions.
