The University of Kentucky police are responsible for both.\u201d<\/h3>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"quote-by p3\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"name\">Joesph Monroe<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"company\">Chief of Police, University of Kentucky<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Kentucky\u2019s (UK) police department oversees the surveillance infrastructure for the school\u2019s main campus, but their responsibilities also include an on-campus hospital and the UK HealthCare statewide healthcare network, significantly expanding the scope and complexity of security operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are many differences when you look at policing on a college campus as well as healthcare institutions,\u201d said Joesph Monroe, Chief of Police, University of Kentucky. \u201cThe University of Kentucky police are responsible for both.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To address these demands, the University of Kentucky completed a large-scale modernization of its surveillance infrastructure, transitioning to a unified camera ecosystem built around <span class=\"hwFont\">Hanwha Vision<\/span> technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:48px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"University of Kentucky Healthcare - Customer Stories | Hanwha Vision America\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W91FBoIOLok?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From Fragmentation to Centralized Visibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the upgrade, the University\u2019s surveillance environment consisted of more than 60 independent systems, many of them analog and deployed at a departmental level. This structure created blind spots, hindered coordination, and made investigations time-consuming, as security personnel were forced to navigate multiple platforms to reconstruct incidents \u2013 challenging for any surveillance team, but even more complex given the unique dynamics of a hospital environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s important to have real time information to be able to get awareness of what&#8217;s going on,\u201d said Nathan Brown, Deputy Chief of Police of Administration, University of Kentucky. \u201cNow we can provide our first responders with information so they can most safely respond, especially in places like our ERs, where things can get volatile very quickly at times.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut with that, you have to think about privacy, HIPAA requirements,\u201d Monroe added. \u201cThere may be a time that you have to mask or blur out somebody\u2019s video.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UK deployment includes advanced multi-sensor cameras, 8K and 4K ultra-high-resolution models, and edge-based analytics that enable data capture directly at the camera level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re developing a roadmap to make sure that every building has a 100% security perimeter camera coverage,\u201d said Brown. \u201cThe first line of defense is making sure that you know who is coming into your facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This consolidated approach has significantly improved incident response workflows. Operators can now access live and recorded video immediately, enabling rapid verification of reported threats and supporting a more informed deployment of resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-article-paragraph-image-block \" >\n\t<div class=\"content-container\">\n\t\t\n\t\t<div class=\"paragraph-image-inline-block reversed\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hanwhavision.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/uk-health-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"image-size-large\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"mb-0 \">A major advantage of the new system lies in its use of multi-sensor cameras to replace traditional single-lens deployments. A single multi-sensor unit now delivers 360-degree visibility using one device, one cable, and one license.
